Unswear Me on the Smithfield Street Bridge

About this book

In Pittsburgh, a promise sworn on a bridge is kept by the bridge, and breaking it costs you something of equal weight. Mags Dudek, nineteen, from Polish Hill, makes her living getting people out of their vows, and she pays the bridges with things she steals. She is raising her little brother, the mortgage is behind, and she has a vow of her own: never to love anyone again. Then an imperious Shadyside widow offers her twenty thousand dollars to free a grandson who swore never to set foot in his father's house as long as his father lives. His father is dying in Sewickley Heights. The grandson, Ike Bellamy, wants nothing to do with her. To free him, Mags needs a toll heavier than anything she's ever stolen, and she's about to find out what she's willing to pay.
