How it works
Give it a spark, or none
An idea, a place, a character or a what-if. Name your child for a bedtime story, or leave the field empty and pick a genre for a surprise.
Read your story in seconds
An AI writer drafts one complete, original short story of about 500 words, with a title, a turn and an ending, in the language of this page.
Keep it, or make it a novel
Copy the story to keep or share. If you want more, open it in the Novelist studio, where it can become a complete illustrated novel delivered as an EPUB or PDF.
How to get a better story
Name one concrete thing
A rusted key, a night train, a dog called Biscuit. One specific detail gives the story a place to begin.
Give someone a wish
A girl who wants to win the harbour race makes a story. A girl at the harbour makes a postcard.
Choose the genre on purpose
The same idea becomes a ghost story, a romance or a gentle bedtime tale depending on the genre you pick.
Ask again
Every story is new. If the first one is not quite right, write another with the same idea, or change a single word.
Questions
Is the AI story generator really free?
Yes. There is no account, no payment and no email. To keep it free for everyone there is a small daily limit per visitor.
How long are the stories?
About 500 words, a few minutes of reading: long enough for a beginning, a turn and an ending. A novel from Novelist runs to tens of thousands of words.
Can it write a bedtime story about my child?
Yes. Choose “Bedtime story for children” and type your child’s name and what they love. The story stays gentle and ends calmly.
Can I keep and share the story?
Yes. You can read it, keep it and share it with friends and family for free. Like everything Novelist writes, it is for personal, non-commercial use.
Can the story become a whole book?
Yes. Open it in the Novelist studio and it can grow into a complete novel with an illustrated cover, delivered by email as an EPUB or PDF. You see the price and review everything before you pay.
What will it not write?
It writes for all audiences, so it turns down sexual content, hate and stories that mock or target real people. It also invents its own characters instead of borrowing them from well-known books, films or games.
