Wet Harvest

About this book

Every October in Carver, Massachusetts, the Haskins family floods its cranberry bogs until the water turns solid red. Seventeen-year-old Nell Haskins has it all handled: her father is fine, her Tufts application is basically done, and she is completely over Dário Fontes, the foreman's son she grew up beside on the dike roads, who went cold after one stupid kiss on a frost-protection night in June. Now harvest has started, and for six weeks they will stand thigh-deep in the same cold water, pulling the same boom line, in waders that keep turning out to be his. Dário sees what Nell leaves out. But he is carrying a secret about her family's land that he has promised not to tell. Nell is very good at telling a story. The question is how much of hers is true.
