The Wheel Wants Oil

About this book

The arkship Marigold Reach is sixty-three years into a two-hundred-year crossing, and its great habitat wheel is slowing. Only the Spokers, who live in the thin-weight spokes, can feel it. Pip Larkin is twelve, small, stubborn, and one measurement closer to being sent away to the hub for good when old Tamsin Orrey, the last greaser of the enormous bearing called the Grudge, hears her hum a perfect note and offers her a job. The grease is running out and the Council that rules the heavy rim says there is plenty. Tamsin has her own reasons for saying nothing. Pip will have to learn to listen with her teeth before the wheel runs down. Who will tell the truth first?
