The Ice-Cream Van Chose You and Now You Owe the East End Seven Favours

About this book

You are twelve, your name is Mo Lyle, and every Friday for four years you have bought one 99 from Peppino Valente's rattling ice-cream van on your street in Glasgow's East End, always with exact change. On the first Friday of the summer holidays, Peppino dies at the hatch while handing you your cone. His will leaves the van, its cracked 'Santa Lucia' chime and a battered green ledger 'to whoever the van stops for', and the next day the van stops outside your close. Now the whole scheme calls you the Chosen One. The ledger lists seven debts Peppino never paid, his nephew Dessie Lafferty wants something hidden in the van, and you have until Glasgow Fair Friday. With asthmatic Ewan and furious Precious, you set out to pay a dead man's debts. But what exactly did he owe, and to whom?
