The Last Orchard on Sallow Ring

About this book

Calla Brennick is twenty by her own body and forty-one by the calendar of Sallow Ring, the rotating habitat she fled at seventeen aboard a sleeper hauler. Twenty-four station years later she steps off at the Spoke Seven gate, because the Ring's council has voted to clear the last soil orchard, her family's pear trees, and her father is dying. Her little brother is now thirty-five and furious. Her niece is seventeen and about to run exactly as she did. And the orchard's fate rests on one signature: hers. Calla has a story about why she left and who was to blame for the night her mother died. She has eleven days in port before her ship sails again. The question is how much of her story is true.
