The Salt of the Hollow

About this book

In the secluded enclave of Blackwood Hollow, tucked deep within the Appalachian Mountains in 1884, a mysterious ailment known as 'The Gray Wasting' begins to drain the vitality from the soil and the souls of its inhabitants. Young healer Kofi Arigan, an outsider with roots in distant lands, arrives carrying secrets of herbal medicine passed down through his Akan lineage. He finds a community paralyzed by superstition and fear, led by the formidable matriarch Anahit Sargsyan, whose Armenian ancestors settled the Hollow generations ago. As Kofi attempts to cure the physical and emotional blights of the townsfolk, he forms a tentative alliance with Anahit’s rebellious granddaughter, Saran Tungalag, whose mixed heritage has made her a target of local suspicion. Together, they must uncover the source of the Wasting, which seems tied to a buried trauma in the town's history. Through a journey of botanical discovery and confrontation with past ghosts, Kofi and Saran strive to heal the land and its people, proving that true remedy often requires more than just medicine; it demands the courage to forgive and the strength to remember.
