Around them accumulate the surveillance reports filed on her movements, the petitions of courtiers demanding she be silenced, the ledger of a bound underclass, and treaty fragments proving she was never chosen at random: her bloodline cannot be held by binding ink. She is the one hand in Callaverne that can unmake a written oath. Assembled entirely from letters, decrees, intercepted mail, treaty drafts, journal scraps, and marginalia, the record circles back through Serik's first year at court toward the choice waiting at its center — one petition that could free thousands and bind her forever as documented property. It opens and ends on the same image: a single unsealed letter on a black marble desk, wax still warm, contents unknown. Only at the last does the reader learn what it says, and who decided to leave it unwritten.
