That night, 911 dispatcher Nia Brooks takes a terrified call from an address the system swears does not exist. By morning, the building is gone—and no one but Nia remembers it. As mapping errors multiply across all five boroughs, a subway engineer, an urban archaeologist, a cab driver, and an elevator mechanic begin to suspect the impossible: everything New York erased to build itself—streets, streams, rooms, shorelines—never disappeared.
